How to Apply for a Fellowship

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the NSF IGERT Program in addition to UH NSF IGERT.

Step 2: You should be applying or have been accepted into a University of Hawaii doctoral program..

Step 3: If you find you meet the eligibility requirements of the UH NSF IGERT ECPB program and that it closely meets your graduate education and career goals review ECPB’s Integrative Research Clusters.

Step 4: If after reviewing the research areas you find one or more that closely meeting your interests and goals email us at ecpb@hawaii.edu as soon as possible (December 15 at the latest). Include a letter of one page or less informing us about which cluster area(s) and research project(s) interest you most, along with your CV/resumé. You may also directly contact faculty members, whether on not they are listed as an ECPB Participating Faculty. (Participating Faculty’s association with specific research clusters in shown on the Faculty webpage.)

Step 5: If an ECPB Participating Faculty responds to us that your research interests and qualifications match their integrative research area we will email you with the faculty’s contact information.

Step 6: You should immediately contact this faculty member to discuss whether they would agree to sponsor your application as your primary mentor, as well as help you complete your three-member faculty mentor team.

Step 7: Complete the attached form and send it along with copies of your transcripts and faculty sponsor’s letter of commitment by January 31, 2010 as per the instructions. The sponsor’s letter must identify the two other members of the proposed team and which of them will take responsibility for the role of “interdisciplinary integration.”
